Made of poly-L-lactic acid, Sculptra is a biocompatible substance - it is not toxic and will not cause harm to the body. This is important to HIV patients, because their immune systems are already compromised.

The procedure will take about three to six sessions to complete fully, depending on the degree of facial wasting as well how the patient's tissues respond to the product. If all goes well, then after just a couple of months the improvements should be practically permanent, requiring only one to two annual touch-ups to maintain the results.
