Free TRAM Flap
The muscle sparing free TRAM flap is a fairly new procedure, and one that Mossi Salibian M.D. employs at his Los Angeles clinics. Dr. Salibian is in private practice at the Sunset Medical Tower on Sunset Boulevard at the cusp of Beverly Hills and West Hollywood.
Living and working in Southern California, he specializes in reconstructive and aesthetic surgery for both women and men.
Tell me about the free TRAM flap!
In such an innovative field like plastic surgery, new techniques spring up constantly. Unlike the DIEP flap procedure, one alternative to using breast implants during reconstruction is the muscle sparing free TRAM flap which uses the patient's own fatty tissue and skin to create a new breast.
Considering the tissue is removed from the abdomen, the patient will end up with a tummy tuck in the process!
Is this safe?
It is completely safe. It's also practical!
This operation does not remove the entire muscle - only a small portion where the blood supply to the fatty tissue and skin is. The muscle, tissue and skin is then transferred to the chest area and shaped into a breast. This optimizes the blood circulation in the newly reconstructed breast, allowing shaping and contouring to match your opposite breast.
Most women will also opt for a breast lift or breast enhancement on their already existing breast for optimum results.
