AESTHETIC PLASTIC SURGERY / Face

Your face is one of the first things that people notice about you, so you definitely want to take good care of it. Dr. Salibian can help you do just that with the latest facial procedures, including non-invasive treatments like Botox®, Restylane®, Radiesse™, Sculptra® and various chemical peels and dermabrasion treatments. Chemical peels are great for improving fine lines and wrinkles and evening out skin tone; fillers such as Restylane®, Perlane®, Captique™ and Radiesse™ can plump up deep lines like nasolabial folds that run from the nose to mouth; Restylane is also great to improve and enhance lip contour and shape. Botox® is a popular treatment that can diminish forehead and frown lines, best used to relax the lines of sadness, brooding or anger. Botox can also be used to correct asymmetry of the eyebrows or create a subtle elevation of the eyebrows without requiring surgical brow lift.

More lasting results can be seen with traditional surgical treatments such as facelifts, brow lifts, or eyelid surgery and with the use of newer highly effective and less scarring techniques such as endoscopic facial plastic surgery. In combining the old and time tested methods with some of the newer and less invasive techniques allows us to rejuvenate the face in all three dimensions versus some of the two dimensional suspension and pull methods. We individualize each operation to best achieve the desired change in enhancing one’s specific features as well as in restoring ones youthful and natural appearance. An example of this is to have fat grafting at the time of a face lift to strategic areas to restore the youthful look and prevent the “pulled” look.

You can uncover more information about the best treatments for your particular facial concerns during a one-on-one consultation with Dr. Salibian. A key aspect of Dr. Salibian’s practice philosophy is individualizing the care to achieve the best desired outcome. Here, a highly discriminating aesthetic eye works in concert with a pair of skillful hands guided by the years of learning and experience to create that specific desired result safely and flawlessly.

Some Facial Treatments and Procedures Offered by Dr. Mossi Salibian:

  • Facelift: This includes endoscopic, minimally-invasive or short incision techniques depending on the patient’s needs.
  • Brow lift: Traditional (open) or endoscopic(closed) methods are available, but again the decision is guided by the patient’s needs. Sometimes a hairline approach is necessary to shorten ones long forehead.
  • Eyelid Surgery: Surgery can be performed on the upper and/or lower eyelids (blepharoplasty). We offer scarless lower eyelid surgery and other additions such as fat grafting or repositioning to restore the hollowed out look due to age and/or previous surgeries. The healing of the upper eyelid is so forgiving that it can be beautifully reshaped to its youthful contour and the incisions become undetectable or barely noticeable in a very short time.
  • Cheek lift: This procedure can include a mid-cheek lift, temporal (endoscopic) cheek lift or lower eyelid approach to the cheek lift; where the cheek is re-suspended to its original position and the lower eyelid / cheek junction is shortened and a lower eyelid blepharoplasty is done at the same time.
  • Rhinoplasty: This procedure can be performed with closed or open techniques based on the patient’s needs, specifically based on the change necessary for the nasal tip. Dr. Salibian also performs revisional procedures to improve the nasal architecture for both improved breathing and nasal aesthetics.
  • Ear Correction Surgery: This is performed especially for asymmetrical or protuberant ears. This is more commonly done at an earlier age, however, it is also performed with excellent results in adulthood.
  • Facial implants: To enhance angular features (more popular in men) chin and/or mandibular angle implants give excellent results to achieve a strong and masculine jaw line and a better overall facial balance.
SCULPTRA

Dr. Salibian uses the injectable SCULPTRA, for clients affected by facial wasting. Facial wasting or lipoatrophy affects a significant number of patients with HIV and specially those who were on some of the earlier generation HIV medications. Although the science of HIV treatment has made astounding strides in the past several decades, new side effects and conditions have surfaced as a result of some of the newer treatments albeit more effective against the virus and in maintenance of a healthier immune system and overall lifestyle. Patients with HIV have a specific type of lipoatrophy called lipodystrophy which can affect the facial, central (truncal), extremity and internal organs.

SCULPTRA is FDA approved to correct facial wasting and facial lipodystrophy. Until recently there were not many reliable treatments for individuals suffering from facial wasting. However, in 2004 the FDA approved Sculptra specifically for the treatment of this condition in HIV patients.

SCULPTRA is made of poly-L-lactic acid. This is a biocompatible substance, meaning it is not toxic and will not cause harm to the body. This is of special importance to HIV patients whose immune system is already compromised. Unlike other injectable fillers, SCULPTRA does not require an allergy test and a subsequent 30-day waiting period. Dr. Salibian will inject Sculptra in small amounts underneath the skin level in areas that appear hollow, such as at the mid cheek level below and around the cheek bones. This procedure is done at the office with a local nerve block to anaesthetize the face in combination with an anesthetic cream. There is minimal down time and pain post injection. The post procedure swelling and redness improves within 24 to 48 hours and the product begins to stimulate tissue growth at the areas of injections in the ensuing weeks to months.

It will take a series of about three to six sessions to achieve an acceptable correction but sometimes even more depending on the degree of facial wasting as well as to the way the tissues respond to the product. The whole process is a gradual improvement that will become obvious as the months progress. Thereafter, you may need one or two touch-up treatments per year to maintain the results.

During your consultation Dr. Salibian will discuss the necessary details about the procedure based on your specific needs and desires. He will also discuss the available alternatives to treat the appearance of facial wasting as well as their successful use for cosmetic improvement of areas of facial hollowing or depressions.
