AESTHETIC PLASTIC SURGERY / Body

Body contouring and rejuvenation ranges from the least invasive such as minor liposuction to targeted areas of concern to major body makeovers such as circumferential body lift and muscle tightening procedures as in after massive weight loss. During your consultation, the best procedure and alternatives are discussed in detail with respect to your underlying medical condition and aesthetic expectations. There are many factors that go into designing the best possible surgical approach in body contouring procedures some of which include your skin quality, degree of skin laxity and elasticity, underlying body shape and muscle tone, especially that of the core muscle groups.

Dr. Salibian has an extensive experience in body contouring procedures in both men and women. Most of these procedures can be performed on an out patient basis. Several of them might require an overnight stay at a full service after care facility and yet others might need hospital care. The choice of the surgical facility is made at the time of your consultation based on your medical care needs with respect to the actual procedure. As a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Salibian operates only at out patient surgical facilities of the highest caliber and accreditations. Some of the local area hospitals that he has attending privileges at include Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica and Century City Doctors Hospital in Century City.

Here is a brief description of some of the procedures to enhance the body, such as tummy tucks, full body lifts, buttock lifts, liposuction, and male breast reduction. By scheduling a one-on-one consultation with Dr. Salibian, you can gain more information about the full range of plastic surgery available and the procedure that will best meet your own personal needs and expectations. At the end of the consultation, a literature packet will be handed to you detailing the recommended procedure, alternatives, expectations, pre operative preparation and post operative care instructions. Helpful information is also given to you with respect to the experience of having surgery, some of the psychosocial aspects as well as the short and long term recovery guidelines.

Tummy Tuck

Tummy tucks (abdominoplasty) slim the waist area by tightening the skin and underlying muscles in the abdominal area. This procedure is popular among women who have had children and are now left with an unwanted pouch or loose skin. Tummy tucks are also popular among men; helping to flatten out “pot bellies.” Sometimes tummy tucks are performed in conjunction with liposuction of the belly area.

Full Body Lift

Sometimes an individual will lose a large amount of weight and have sagging skin and residual fat covering their body. If this is the case, Dr. Salibian will suggest a full body lift to tighten the skin over your newly slimmed-down frame. This procedure may involve several plastic surgeries rolled into one, such as a tummy tuck, liposuction, arm lift and others. Each full body lift is customized to the patients’ needs and lifestyle, from where the incisions are made to the specific procedures carried out.

Buttock Lift

As we age, our skin loses elasticity and some parts of our body, like the buttocks, begin to droop or sag. A buttock lift tightens the skin over the muscle and fat tissue to give them an uplifted appearance dramatically improving the buttock contour and curve. The design of the excision is done such that the final incision will be hidden in a bikini or a low cut jeans (or pants / low waist skirt) as in the final location of the tummy tuck incision.

Liposuction

Many individuals find that certain places on their body do not respond to dieting and exercise the way they had hoped. Liposuction can slim and reshape an area of your body that may be troubling you. It is best for people who are close to their ideal weight – liposuction should not be used as method of weight reduction. Liposuction can be done using various techniques, such as the tumescent technique, which infuses the fat tissue with anesthesia and saline before suctioning it out. Another technique is known as ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty, or UAL. This method uses an ultrasound probe to break down the fat before it is suctioned out of the body. Dr. Salibian can help determine which liposuction method is best for your body.

Male Breast Reduction

Women are not the only patients who seek ways to improve their breast shape. Some men decide to seek medical assistance for a condition known as gynecomastia, which is commonly called male breast reduction. This condition can be greatly improved through the removal of excess tissue, some may require removal of excess skin in addition to the underlying tissue. Dr. Salibian can do this by making a small incision under the nipple and using either liposuction or traditional surgical methods remove the excess breast tissue. Depending on the degree of breast enlargement and skin laxity, including in some patients an enlarged areola and nipples, surgical excision of surrounding skin and contouring of the chest is necessary for an optimal outcome in addition to specific exercises to enhance the pectoralis (chest muscle) definition and masculine contour.
